Lauren Ruiz

Lauren Ruiz is a research-based multimedia artist interrogating perceptions of nature, the role of institutional authority, and their complex intersections with class, labor, and identity. She creates speculative-fiction-based installations, digital works, and multimedia sculptures inviting subjects to question the relationship between the human body and the post natural environment. Ruiz has presented her research projects at the Latvian National Museum of Art, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, UC Santa Barbara, UC Berkeley, the 2021 College Art Association Conference and the 2022 AAH Conference. Ruiz has been a resident artist at the Vermont Studio Center, the Guerrilla Science’s ArtSci Residency, the I-Park Foundation Artist-in-Residence Program, and the 2022 Santa Fe Art Institute Revolution Residency.

Ruiz is utilizing her role as Director of the Sagtikos Art Gallery at Suffolk Community College Grant Campus at Brentwood, NY to facilitate socially conscious and inclusive programming incorporating arts integration through exhibitions, workshops, and student engagement. Her curatorial experience includes her recent exhibition, The Case for Memory at the Sagtikos Art Gallery featuring the work of Maggie Avolio and Mark Van Wagner, a Curatorial Fellowship at the Parrish Art Museum, and an upcoming exhibition at the Sagtikos Gallery featuring artists in residence at the “Future Histories Studio” located at Stony Brook University.
