Sarah Elkin

Sarah Elkin is a certified secondary English and Special Education teacher whose passion for providing trauma-informed care to students with disabilities has led her to garner an additional certification in social, emotional, and behavioral wellness. Sarah has been employed by Eastern Suffolk BOCES since 2020, where she has strived to create an equitable, inclusive, and trauma-informed learning environment that serves as a catalyst for the growth of diverse populations of students. 

Sarah currently works as an English Language Arts and Credit Recovery teacher at Sequoya High School, an alternative, special education setting that serves students from communities across Suffolk County who are enabled to best succeed through increased academic, emotional, and behavioral support. She loves to design individualized, engaging lessons that help students to meet and exceed learning goals by encouraging them to get creative, think critically, and take learning risks. As an active member of her school’s No Place for Hate Committee, she is dedicated to ensuring that not only her classroom, but the entire school exist as a safe space for all. Sarah is also a member of the National English Honor Society and acted as the president of the Alpha Iota Omicron chapter for two consecutive years during her undergraduate studies.
