Thea Lanzisero

"I am curious how using our creativity through making objects and artworks, creating movement and sound, and listening and connecting to the natural world, can be integrated with public interactions to raise our collective consciousness, awareness of our environment and support our general health and well-being.”
Thea Lanzisero is a New York based Mixed-Media Artist who holds an MFA in Visual Arts. As a polymedia artist who creates community engagement through interactive sculptural installations, her medium is ever changing in response to the site. She has used bronze, steel, ceramic, bamboo, paper and textile, and has been incorporating video and sound in her multi-sensory exhibition experiences.
She has received multiple residencies, grants and awards including a NYFA SOS, NYSCA, and 2 JPMorgan Chase Individual Artist grants, and has produced numerous public art commissions including one for the Town of Huntington and one in NYC on 38th street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Her exhibitions and installations have been in varied venues such as the Heckscher Museum of Art, Sculpture Key West, Governor’s Island, the Brooklyn Bridge Park, Penn State University, City of Roanoke, VA, New Orleans, LA, and abroad in Germany, Italy, Norway, and Greece. From this work she has also been featured in the NY Times, ArtNews, the Brooklyn Rail, LI Pulse Artist VIP section, and Italian television and newspaper interviews. Thea has a sculpture in the permanent collection of MUSMA the Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in Sassi Matera, Italy.
Thea received her BFA from SUNY Purchase and her MFA from CUNY Queens College Public Practice specialization. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at CUNY Brooklyn College, CUNY Borough of Manhattan Community College and SUNY Farmingdale. Thea has certifications as a Yoga instructor, Qigong, Aromatherapy, Gong Teacher Training and multiple Sound Therapy Certifications, Yoga of Voice, and Reiki. She is currently studying Deep Listening at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
